(*A suit of armour made of linked metal rings or overlapping plates.)
(Crash helmet; Face mask; Hard hat; Warrior’s helmet) In a dream, a helmet means safety, money, a wife, employment, travel, or one’s head.
A white helmet in a dream means relaxing, or peace in one’s life, or it could mean recovering from a migraine headache. Wearing a warrior’s helmet in a dream also means safety of one’s property and protection from an accident. Wearing a rounded expensive helmet in a dream means betrothing a beautiful and a rich woman.
A helmet made of iron in a dream represents a leader who defends people, or it could mean trust, status, rank, a wife, or might. Wearing a white helmet in a dream means honor and protection of one’s property.
Protection of the head sometimes turns around and suggests that the head is the protector. But it also may mean a stubborn hardhead. Symbol for fear of war, as in Shot, Bomb, Bayonet, Jet, Siege, Rifle.
1- In dreams, it will depend on whether the helmet is being worn by someone else or by the dreamer.
If the former, it may have the same symbolism as the mask (see Mask) in that it prevents the wearer being seen.
If the latter, then it is a symbol of protection and preservation.
2- In olden times, the helmet was the attribute of the warrior or hero. Even today as with the motorcycle helmet it is still largely a representation of the masculine.
Dreams of a helmet represent that you are protecting your mind from adverse thoughts, criticism and judgments and being responsible for the vulnerability and suggestibility of your open mind. See Hat.
As a heraldic device, the helmet denotes wisdom and security in defence, and will have this significance in dreams. It symbolizes both protection by, and of, the spiritual self.
Psychological / emotional perspective: In olden times, the helmet was the attribute of the warrior or hero. Whilst it covered the face, it often had the eye pieces highlighted in order to scare the enemy. Even today – as with the motorcycle helmet – it is still in dreams largely a representation of the masculine.
Gives gender - specific: In a man’s dream the helmet will represent his own virility. In a woman’s dream it will symbolize her attitude to the masculine.
The type of helmet will be relevant, since there are now cycle and sports helmets – among others – which do not cover the face, but do protect the head, the seat of the intellect.
